GOD FORBID Guitarist Issues Update On DVD, Forthcoming Album
January 9, 2008Guitarist Doc Coyle of New Jersey metallers GOD FORBID has issued the following update:
"We actually just played Stillborn Fest with HATEBREED over the holidays, and it went incredibly well. The shows were packed, and it is amazing to me how our live shows just seem to get better and better over time. They went fucking crazy! Thanks again to HATEBREED for once again taking us on the road. They are great friends and and still one the best live bands around. I'd also like to thank the other bands on the bill; AGNOSTIC FRONT, NECRO, AT ALL COST, THY WILL BE DONE, TURMOIL, SHAI HULUD, and BLOODJINN. We made some new friends and reunited with some old ones. Definitely a great way to spend the holidays.
"This is going to be a big year for GOD FORBID as we will be releasing our first-ever DVD and our first new album since 2005. The DVD is pretty much done except for the menus and we still need a title. It's incredible how difficult it is to come up with something as minute as a title, but it is very important. I've already mentioned how incredible the concert portion looks and sounds, but the band was fortunate enough to be able to screen the documentary portion directed by Denise Korycki, and we were all blown away. It is a combination of historical insight, introspection into our personalities, social commentary, and some goddamn funny-ass shit! I guess we were sick of being funny on other bands DVDs. If you consider yourself a GOD FORBID fan, this DVD will be essential. I think this DVD ranks among the best metal DVDs on the market.
"In regards to the new album, we are a lot further along in the writing process. We have a few songs done, and probably a dozen more in the works. The material so far is extremely varied. We have a really black metal influenced song, a sludgy, melodic opus, a much heavier 'Fallen Hero'-type track, an epic, OPETH-inspired song, and a bunch of other awesome shit. Rock stuff, prog stuff, slow songs, thrash songs. I honestly am not sure what songs will make the album in the end, but I can say that it will once again be a departure from what we've done but still sound like GOD FORBID. We will probably end up writing too many songs and having to pick which ones will fit best.
"Our goal has been to make an album that will not only be a landmark for GOD FORBID, but for heavy music in general. After showing some very rough rehearsal demos to people, and getting some very enthusiastic responses, I feel like were at least headed in the right direction.
"We have not finished any tracks with vocals, so I can't answer the ever-elusive question about whether there will be more or less singing. I'm still not sure. We will try to do what fits the songs. I can also say that Dallas [Coyle, guitarist/vocalist] and I have began using seven-string guitars, so tonally there will be more variety. We will be using some of our older tunings, but will be going as low as A and G for some songs. But no nu-metal songs, in case we were getting your hopes up.
"We will be heading into the studio at the beginning of March with our longtime producer and friend, Eric Rachel at Trax East. So the album we probably come out mid-to-late summer. Let's keep our fingers crossed on that front. We will also begin videotaping rehearsals and recording, and releasing some YouTube updates as the process continues. Keep your eyes and ears open for those.
"We do not have any touring scheduled at the moment as the focus is on the new record, but we would like to do some shows to support the DVD release. There is no release date yet unfortunately. The band would like to do some European festivals in early summer, and hopefully land a big U.S. summer tour to help blow this new album up. Any touring plans will be announced in the coming months."
